It’s not magic, it’s science! Created by Harvard Scientists, CoolSculpting by Zeltiq is a non-invasive method of reducing fat by literally freezing it away.
In 2010, FDA approved Zeltiq for a fat reduction procedure, Cryolipolysis that “freezes” the fat away. Thought it’s not a substitute for liposuction, it’s great for reducing the fat pockets that just don’t budge with diet and exercise.
How does it work?
Zeltiq destroys the fat cells by exposing them to a very cold temperature. Its suction device can get to the fat under the skin from outside just chill enough to damage the fat cells but not the skin cells. Days after the procedure, the damaged fat cells begin to die off then the body metabolized and eliminates them through the liver over the next few months.

What problem areas does it treat?
CoolSculpting selectively targets localized fat deposits like abdominal fat, love handles, back rolls, muffin-tops, ’man-boobs’ and bulges above Ceasarean section incision lines, etc.
On a segment of the Dr. Oz Show, Dr. Oz invited a doctor to demonstrate that CoolSculpting can also work on eliminating back fat.

It’s done gradually without causing any harm to the surrounding tissues. At this time, Zeltiq is not used on cellulite.
Who can use it?
The ideal candidate for a CoolSculpting procedure is of normal weight and has moderate fat pockets, like love handles, which they’d like to get rid of. In order to be considered for Zeltiq, you should be within 10 to 30 pounds of your ideal body weight.
Patients younger than 18 are not recommended to use this because at this age, diet and exercise are still the best weight loss options. Zeltiq should be used mainly as a last resort.
When will I see the results?
Zeltiq won’t get rid of excess fat right away. During the weeks after treatment, your body will begin to recognize, process, and dispose of the damaged fat cells, but the process is not exactly speedy.

Ultimately, patients can expect to see a gradual reduction of 20 to 25 percent fat. Visible differences in contour emerge after about three weeks, but the most dramatic results take up to two months to show. The results are considered permanent because the treated fat cells are eliminated.
How long does it lasts?
As with all weight loss procedures, proper diet and exercise is necessary to maintain the result.
Key benefits of Zeltiq (CoolSculpting)
Clinical studies have shown a decrease in fat volume by 20 to 40 percent. Zeltiq isn’t as good as liposuction at handling large pockets of fat but unlike liposuction, Zeltiq is non-invasive and has no post-procedural downtime.
Important notes on Zeltiq
Zeltiq was approved by the FDA in September 2010 for body contouring and the procedure needs to be performed in a physician’s office.
Cost: The cost of Zeltiq is based on the number and size of the fat bulges you plan to reduce. Each session, which lasts an hour, is called a cycle. Each cycle treats a single body part.
Possible side effects: Temporary redness, bruising, tingling, tenderness, numbness, and cramping, which typically fade within a few hours. If this persists for longer than that, contact our office.
Tell our doctor: In the past, some doctors were concerned that the liver might be overtaxed since the liver processes and eliminates the dead fat cells. So far, though, it appears that Cryolipolysis happens slowly enough so that the liver is not negatively affected.
There is no evidence that the procedure has any adverse effects on levels of liver enzymes or blood fats (like cholesterol). Still, be sure to let us know if you have a liver condition.
Drawbacks: Zeltiq doesn’t provide immediate results
Pre-procedure prep for Zeltiq (Coolsculpting): If your Zeltiq appointment is rapidly approaching, worry not – there is nothing special you should be doing in preparation for the big chill.
On the day of treatment: You won’t need to change your day around too much for your Zeltiq session. Other than showing up for your appointment, Zeltiq is a low-maintenance process. No downtime, no pain, no incisions and no anesthesia.
