Laser Hair Removal

Let’s face it, the only hair that we really desire is that which adorns the top of our head –our crowning glory. The rest of it though, not so much. We spend a considerable amount of time and money on various methods of hair removal; such as shaving, waxing, bleaching, plucking, etc., only to suffer through razor burns, nicks and cuts, itchiness, stubble, and ingrown hairs – over and over again.

So, are you ready for a REAL long-term solution to hair removal? Then it’s time to go from HAIR to Bare!

What are the benefits of laser hair removal?

  • Most effective of all hair removal methods
  • Faster and less painful than electrolysis and waxing
  • Smoother skin – reduces the size of pores after hair is gone
  • No ingrown hairs or razor burn
  • Save time and money in the long run compared to other solutions
  • Can treat all skin types as long as the hair is darker than the skin color
  • Our laser provides long-term results vs. short term with other lasers
  • Go Green!  7,848 gallons of water are used in a year shaving!
  • Enhance appearance & confidence
  • Long-term hair reduction

The difference between Laser and IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) for Laser Hair Removal

Not every form of light-based technology used for hair removal is the same. Knowing and understanding the difference is important in achieving long-term successful results.

A true laser emits a single concentrated beam of light that is extremely focused into one precise spot at a time, penetrating deeply down to the root, making it very powerful and accurate. IPL is not laser but a light based device that produces multiple wavelengths (much like a light bulb) as opposed to a single beam and penetration is shallower. Additionally IPL is not safe or effective on dark skin types. At Mill Creek Skin & Laser, even though we have an IPL, we use only a true laser for laser hair removal and leave the IPL for its best use, which is treating skin pigment, redness, vascular issues and promoting collagen.

How does Laser Hair removal work?

Using a true laser, the laser light is attracted to the melanin, or pigment, naturally found in each hair follicle. The intense heat of the laser damages the hair follicle, cutting off the supply of nutrients, which can often prevent any future growth. Our laser emits a powerful beam of light that passes through the skin and targets many follicles at once, making this treatment very quick and effective.
Those with red, blonde or gray hair are typically not good candidates for laser hair removal as there is not enough pigment to attract the laser’s heat, making treatment unreliable. We offer Meladine to assist the treatment, but consultation is needed. We also do waxing services for these patients.

Testimonial

. . . Thank you for being so kind and helpful during my consultation and first visit. I felt well taken care of and the treatment I had done on my lip and chin was only 15 minutes (with 3 minutes under the laser). I am going to recommend your services to everyone I know!

How many treatments are needed?

The number of treatments is generally determined by the amount of hair, phase of hair growth, area of the body, skin color, hair color and coarseness.

Laser is only effective when targeting the hair in the anagen stage (also known as the active growth stage). There is no clinical way to determine which stage of growth the hair is in at any given time, which is why it requires multiple treatments.

Generally, 6-8 treatments are recommended at 4 to 6 week intervals between treatments. Patients with the combination of lighter skin with darker hair typically are the best candidates.

What can I expect during treatment?

When being treated with the hair removal laser, you may experience a light stinging sensation. It really depends on individual sensitivity or tolerance to the stimulation. At Mill Creek Skin and Laser, client comfort is one of our top priorities, which is why our laser hair removal head has a continuous cooling mechanism that eases any patient discomfort. Numbing cream can be purchased at Mill Creek Skin & Laser and applied 60 minutes prior to coming in for treatment.

What can I expect after treatment?

After treatment, redness and some slight swelling may occur, typically lasting anywhere from 2 to 48 hours. These minor effects can also be improved by icing the area or using an over the counter hydrocortisone cream after treatment.
