Procedure
MonaLisa Touch® uses a fractionated CO2 laser to stimulate the production of new collagen and improve the circulation and nutrient supply to the vaginal mucosa. The increase in healthy collagen helps improve the integrity and elasticity of the vaginal wall. The procedure can also benefit the vulvar area.
During the procedure, a small probe delivers gentle laser energy to the soft tissues. The treatment itself is totally painless; most patients only feel a slight vibration. Some patients may experience some slight discomfort, but this is usually due to their initial symptoms rather than the treatment itself. The total procedure takes less than five minutes.
In as little as 30 days after treatment, the regeneration of new tissue in the vaginal wall builds a naturally stronger structure, and the protective mucosa recovers its volume, hydration, and elasticity.
Recovery and Results
MonaLisa Touch® typically requires no downtime. However, some patients may experience mild irritation and vaginal discharge after the procedure. Patients should refrain from intercourse for seven days and avoid any strenuous exercise for three to four days following treatment.
Many patients report noticeable relief after just one treatment. However, an initial series of three sessions spaced six weeks apart is recommended to achieve optimal results. A yearly treatment is also recommended to maintain the outcome of the laser therapy.
What Our Clients Say
FAQ
Mill Creek Skin & Laser has carefully evaluated all of the devices currently on the market and ultimately chose the MonaLisa Touch® because it is the only device with a clinically proven track record for safety, efficacy, and patient satisfaction. This treatment offers significant advantages over current treatment involving medications.
MonaLisa Touch® provides longer-lasting relief (one to two years) than current treatments with other modalities. Other devices currently being marketed for non-invasive vaginal rejuvenation include:
FemiLift: A fractional CO2 laser that is similar to standard lasers and is not specifically designed for treating the vagina.
IntimaLase®: An Er:YAG laser that provides photothermal tightening of the vaginal canal but does not treat atrophic vaginitis.
ThermiVa®: A radiofrequency (RF) device that uses direct bulk heating for vaginal contouring. While ThermiVa® claims that it increases lubrication and improves vaginal function, there are no valid peer-reviewed studies that can be found to support these claims. ThermiVa® is also not FDA-approved for intra-vaginal use.
You will need to undergo an examination by your gynecologist three to six months before your treatment to determine if you are a good candidate. Good candidates are in good general health and may be concerned about one or more of the following:
- Gynecologic changes due to a decrease in estrogen
- A history of breast cancer, thrombophlebitis, or other contraindications to estrogen therapy
- Inadequate response to estrogen therapy or decline of treatment results with estrogen
- Soreness or pain during sexual activity
Some patients may not be good candidates for this treatment. MonaLisa Touch® is a medical treatment and is not meant for cosmetic purposes. A full evaluation of your medical history and physical exam by your gynecologist is required three to six months prior to undergoing the procedure at Mill Creek Skin & Laser Center. Conditions that may affect your candidacy include, but are not limited to, the following:
- An abnormal pap smear
- History of reconstructive pelvic surgery with “mesh kits” or mesh in use for restoration surgery
- History of radiation to the vaginal or colorectal tissue
- History of impaired wound healing.
- History of keloid formation
- Vaginal, cervical, or other lesions in the treatment area that have not been evaluated and diagnosed
